People visiting West Lake on Sept 30 were treated to the sight of a colorfully painted boat on the lake. It was adorned with pseudo-classic decorations and had a 7.5-square-meter LED screen hanging down its side airing a livestream.

The boat, the first and only of its kind designed for livestreaming, was powered by 5G technology and embarked on its maiden trip on Sept 30, one day before the National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The 4-hour livestream took netizens on a tour of a variety of Hangzhou attractions, including Kuahong Bridge Pier near Yuewang Temple, where many heads of state attending the 2016 G20 Summit disembarked for a cultural gala entitled Hangzhou is the Most Memorable City.

As the boat approached the No 1 Park Pier, online viewers were treated to beautiful views of the setting sun. As night fell, the bustling Hubin commercial area became packed with people and featured eye-catching light shows.

"It was great to take a leisurely ride on West Lake while enjoying a livestream," said media veteran Yu Bohong.

The livestream also featured Qinhuai River in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, Yellow Moutian in Anhui province, and the Temple of the City God in Shanghai, all renowned scenic spots in the Yangtze River Delta region.
