Zhejiang Normal University plays a role in the release of a joint proposal on Sino-Africa cooperation to fight against the COVID-19

In order to accurately determine the pandemic trends in Africa and provide intellectual support for the two sides to cooperate in the fight against the epidemic, an international video conference on "Fighting against the novel coronavirus and China-Africa cooperation" co-hosted by the Institute of African Studies of Zhejiang Normal University, the Institute of African Studies of the South African, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies of Nigeria and the Center for China Studies of Nigeria, and a launch event of the six-language “A JOINT PROPOSAL ON AFRICA AND CHINA WORKING TOGETHER TO FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19” was held online.

More than 60 prominent scholars, think tank leaders and media representatives from China and 13 African countries including and South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, Mali, Tanzania, Somalia, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Zambia, and Cameroon, attended the video conference.

The theme of the meeting was "strengthening the capacity of epidemic control and building a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future", the Chinese and African scholars at the meeting had in-depth discussions on three topics "the current situation and trends of the novel coronavirus in Africa", "China-Africa exchanges and cooperation of public health" and "enhancing governance capacity and common development", giving suggestions for China-Africa cooperation in fighting against the pandemic.

The meeting also released “A JOINT PROPOSAL ON AFRICA AND CHINA WORKING TOGETHER TO FIGHT AGAINST COVID-19” which was translated into 6 languages of Chinese, English, French, Arabic, Swahili, and Hausa, and was signed Chinese and African think tank scholars from the Think Tank Forum.

This proposal puts forward specific suggestions and proposals for more effective cooperation between China and Africa in fighting against the pandemic.

It is reported that this proposal will also be translated into Afrikaans and other African native languages. At present, there have been several Africa and China’s mainstream media, websites, the Chinese embassies in the front and African organizations in China saying that they will publish and reprint this proposal and related news.
