The Qiantang River Experienced Greatest Flood Since 1960
en.hangzhou.com.cn 2011/06/17 18:28 Source:Hangzhou Net

This is the greatest flood of the Qiantang river since 1960.

Our reporter from the Hangzhou Waterway Department learned that on the 16th and 10:20, the Fuchun river’s flowrate reached 14000 cubic meters per second, and the division of the water from it’s reservoir reached 14000 cubic meters per second, and division from the river reservoir reached 800 cubic meters per second. This totals 14800 cubic meters per second and is the peak flow since the year 1960 and has a tendency to increase.

The Hangzhou Waterway Department’s analysis is that in the aftermath of this flood there will be a great threat to the Qiantang river as well as connected waterways. According to our reporters understanding, meteorological records show that precipitation this year has decreased by 50 to 60 percent, the flooding period is apparently late, but the tendency for concentrated precipitation has been apparent.
