The maintenance construction of the Baochu Pagoda, one of the renowned landmarks of the West Lake Scenic Area, has begun in October in 2019 and the spire of the Pagoda was early on that it was beginning to lean. During a daily monitoring across the West Lake Scenic Area in 2018, staff found that the top of the Baochu Pagoda was partially tilted, about 12 degrees to the southeast. At that time, it was analyzed by professionals that the reason of leaning spire was caused by the external forces. The removal of scaffoldings on the Baochu Pagoda has started since 20 March. The demolition work is expected to complete in 10 days and you may see the pagoda again in late April. |
