Hangzhou International Modern Calligraphy Festival was opened at China Academy of Art in the hope of promoting and displaying the contemporary practice of modern calligraphy from the core issues of calligraphy art and noumenon language.

Time of the festival: October 12 to October 24

Location of the festival: Art gallery, China Academy of Fine Arts (No.216 Nanshan road, Hangzhou)

This festival is divided into three sections, depicting a long scroll of modern Chinese writing from different dimensions.

Section One: Salute classic

A large number of educators of Chinese modern calligraphy education history, representative of Zhejiang cultural celebrity’s calligraphy works are to be displayed. Huang Binhong, Ma Yifu, Pan Tianshou, Sha Menghai, Lu Yanshao, Zhang Zongxiang, Zhu Lesan, Li Shutong’s works will make their apprearances on the festival.

Section Two: Returns to basis to open a new road

A total of 21 artists are selected to conduct media experiments based on calligraphy study, representing traditional calligraphy and experimental works respectivly.

Section Three: Realizing harmony and coexistence

More than 60 artists from 24 countries have participated in this section. Taking full advantages of the resources in the cultural field, they present rich artistic forms and enrich the cultural life of the masses with high-quality works.
