Hundreds of paintings and calligraphy works from Chinese mainland and Taiwan are on display at an art exhibition in Lien Heng Memorial Hall of Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province, on May 10. The cross-Straits youth painting and calligraphy exhibition, running for two months, showcases artworks from 81 young calligraphers and painters from across the Straits. Young artists of the two sides, who are intricately linked and intertwined, should advance communication and exchanges and achieve mutual understanding with brush and ink, said a professor from National Taiwan University of Arts. Liu Jie, head of Lien Heng Memorial Hall, noted that the cultural connection between Hangzhou and Taiwan has been time-honored. Despite everyone not having ever met, they shorten the distance and increase intimacy in the world of painting and calligraphy.
