The traditional “West Lake June Baby Hairy Crabs”are not in service in this June and they will not come to our dinner table until the northwest wind starts. Is it a sad news for the foodies?
As a chowhound that is always waiting for the “West Lake June Baby Hairy Crabs”, I have to introduce them first. Although lots of people say that this kind of crab is lack of meet and you can only bite its shells, the “June Baby Hairy Crabs” are the last stage young crabs and it is the last time they molt before they step into the adult period so they are called “Baby Crabs”. These “June Baby Hairy Crabs” offered in the West Lake area are grown in the West Lake and feed with the small fish, shrimps, and conch and they taste very delicious. They can be cooked in the soup or steamed with water and eat with wine. The citizens often come for them from far away. |
