Yuhang district in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, selected a group of "joint talent officers", a new type of occupation invented by the district, to help attract skilled workers to the district, at a conference on Nov 9.

The Yuhang branch of the 2020 Hangzhou International Talent Exchange and Project Cooperation Conference as well as the International Talent Month both began on Nov 9.

At the conference, Yuhang announced a series of new measures to attract skilled workers from across the globe, including appointing a group of joint talent officers, recruiting skilled workers for the Engineer Coordination and Innovation Center, and setting up a committee specializing in attracting skilled workers.

Xu Xuan, director of the skilled workers-related affairs office at Zhejiang University, Ma Jinxi, an official from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Wang Chunbo, director of the skilled workers affairs-related office at Zhejiang Lab, and other scholars and officials were appointed to be joint talent officers.

They were selected from among a number of well-known research institutes in Yuhang, and agreed to make use of their skills to help attract skilled workers to Yuhang.

The Engineer Coordination and Innovation Center was one of Zhejiang's 14 pilot centers to specialize in developing the intelligent manufacturing industry and training engineers.

The newly-established committee was founded by the government of Yuhang and a number of well-known ventures. It will identify skilled workers and excellent projects which can contribute to the development of Yuhang.

Aslew of activities related to entrepreneurship and the recruitment of skilled workers will be held over the next month as part of International Talent Month.

Yuhang set up a fund of 1 billion yuan ($151 million) to help highly skilled workers start businesses.

To date, Yuhang has brought in more than 5,700 high-caliber skilled workers from overseas, 165 of whom have received national recognition.
