As Hangzhou is going global, the city's tourism has increased exponentially, receiving more than ever foreign visitors. The tourism boom brought a new problem - Whom could these international tourists turn to for help, as many of them do not speak Chinese and rely on translators to deliver information? In May, 2019, a group of international students united in Lingyin tourism spot for the common goal of making people feel comfortable when traveling in a foreign land. The group was later given a name by“Green Leaf International Volunteer Team”. A total of 8 students from Zhejiang University of Technology was selected and trained in July as the third batch of the team, to provide professional volunteering services. On Oct.15, the "International Volunteer Incubator" was launched in Xihu, Hangzhou on the basis of the team. As of today, More than 12,000 acts of language services have been provided by international volunteers who speak French, English, Russian, Japanese, and Korean, and most importantly, Chinese. |
