Yan’an Road has been playing a decisive role in the downtown area of Hangzhou and has been planned to receive a comprehensive treatment in 2011. Yan’an Road can be seen as the most “commercial” road in Hangzhou. It strings three important commercial districts together: Wilin, Wushan and Hubin. The dominant commercial status of Yan’an Road will be highlighted in the process of the treatment, as the transport arrangement and road designing will mainly serve for business.

According to the preliminary plan, the turnpike road will be designed to be four-traffic-lane, and the sidewalks and non-motor vehicle lanes will be widened. The crossing facilities will be built underground to expand the traffic capacity.
