For seven years, Christian Fardel, the French translator of The History of Ancient Chinese Ships, has made his home by Xianghu Lake in Hangzhou's Xiaoshan district. In a modest rented house, he diligently translates the French version of the book.

What keeps him there? What drives him to frequent the Kuahuqiao Site Museum, where he draws inspiration from the "First Boat of China"? A short video delves into Fardel's world, intertwining his story with that of the ancient vessel.

As 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations and commemorates the 20th anniversary of the naming of Kuahuqiao Culture, attention turns to the "First Boat of China", an artifact dating back 8,000 years. Representing the Kuahuqiao Culture, it is a symbol of the ancient inhabitants' navigation skills, signaling the dawn of Chinese civilization.
