Nick Mitchell, founder of a video technology company in the Dream Town of Yuhang, Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, joins the campaign to promote Chinese culture with VR technology.
Born in Kenya in East Africa and grew up in Canada, Mitchell came to China at the age of 18. He showed great interest when he accidentally saw a VR video on the Internet 10 years ago. Mitchell said that he thought it was amazing and would become popular in the future.
In 2017, Mitchell and his partners established a video technology company and settled in Hangzhou. Now his company has a leading position in the application of VR technology, and he has focused on high-quality VR IP creation.
Over the years, Mitchell has been committed to creating VR content. His team launched VR film Mu Guiying Takes Command Again, jointly created with opera master Li Peihong, dean of the College of Chinese Opera at Shanghai Theatre Academy. Audiences from home and abroad can watch this 12K opera film and television work by wearing XR (extended reality) equipment and can immerse in the performance of China's national treasure Peking Opera.
"The ultimate goal of our research and development is to improve the content. I hope to create high-tech movies with VR technology, so that traditional Chinese culture can be widely spread around the world," he said.
