On 23 December, the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 Organising Committee (HAGOC) and the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Organising Committee (AINAGOC) signed a memorandum of understanding regarding working together to build momentum for both Games.
With support and guidance from the Olympic Council of Asia, both HAGOC and AINAGOC will, under this agreement, encourage greater sharing of information and staff as needed to successfully stage both Games and, in tandem, distribute information regarding the events.
Through these efforts to promote the Games, the agreement will also help further the Olympic Movement in Asia and encourage closer ties between the two countries.
The memorandum was signed by Chen Weiqiang, Vice Mayor of Hangzhou and Deputy Secretary General of HAGOC, and Naruse Kazuhiro, Director General of AINAGOC.
Prior to this agreement, the two organizing committees had already maintained and kept in regular contact.
Hideaki Omura, Governor of Aichi Prefecture, had already visited Hangzhou in May 2019 and met leaders of the Zhejiang provincial and Hangzhou municipal governments. At that time the two sides both expressed their intention to regard the Asian Games as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and communications in sport, the economy and culture, for mutual benefit and development.
In the same year, Chen Weiqiang led an official delegation on a visit to Aichi-Nagoya, during which he paid a visit to Omura and held work group meetings with AINAGOC.
In July 2020, the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 and Hangzhou 2022 committees jointly released an Asian Games promotional video.
In September 2021, AINAGOC sent its best wishes for a successful Hangzhou Asian Games, via video, during the celebration held to begin the one-year countdown to the event.
