Hangzhou's Linping district is home to two Asian Games venues and one Asian Para Games venue: Linping Sports Center Venue Cluster(including a gymnasium and a stadium) and China Goalball Training Base. Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee(HAGOC) recently organized an event to explore the accessibility facilities in the three venues.
No steps or ramps are set at entrances or exits of Linping Sports Center Venue Cluster for athletes in wheelchairs. The athletes' lounge is equipped with a roll-in shower, a barrier-free basin, a barrier-free toilet, a multi-function desk, and an emergency call button.
The training ground leading to the second floor is equipped with a barrier-free elevator. The elevator car has three handrails, two low-level control buttons, and each button is provided with braille.
The Linping Sports Center Gymnasium is included in the first batch of reconstructed Asian Games venues that have passed the comprehension sports-event function acceptance on Sept 17. Besides the karate and volleyball events of the Hangzhou Asian Games, it will also host the sitting volleyball competition of the Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
The Linping Sports Center Gymnasium spectators are located on the second floor of the stadium and need to step over more than 40 steps. "We set up barrier-free seats at the place closest to the door for the audience. An escort seat has also been set up next to each wheelchair seat," said an official of the venue.
As for the China Goalball Training Base in Tangqi town, the accessibility facilities are designed to need visually impaired athletes. The blind paths will be installed from the foyer to every functional room. An auto-sensing voice prompt broadcaster is installed on the door to warmly remind athletes that they have entered a specific area.
In addition, a rest area has been set up for guide dogs of visually impaired athletes.
