The construction of the main hall in the middle section was underway
Former Deshou Palace, the future Southern Song Museum, is being restored on an enclosed construction site to the east of Zhonghe Elevated Road. After four archaeological excavations, the overall layout of Deshou Palace Site, with a coverage area of 170,000 square meters, has been very clearly outlined.
The western and middle complexes of the palace had been the most valuable, representative and intriguing architectures in the south palace region in history. Emperor Gaozong and Xiaozong of the Song Dynasty had ever worked and assumed offices in the middle section. The main hall in the middle section will be paved with imperial bricks and furnished with thrones. The ground floor of the middle section has a museum gallery covering about 900 square meters and a ruins exhibition hall occupying approximate 1,000 square meters. The western section has a site with an area of over 4,000 square meters, which, according to the visitors, “is very spectacular and is comparable to Terra-cotta Warriors of the First Emperor of Qin.”
The whole design of the Southern Song Museum Project, which is expected to be completed by the end of June, will try best to copy and reproduce the history of the Southern Song Dynasty. After completion, Southern Song Museum will become the first large-scale key site to display the history and culture of the Southern Song Dynasty.
