Hangzhou's airport port in Zhejiang province has handled more than 4 million inbound and outbound passenger trips this year as of Oct 7, with foreign arrivals reaching a record high of more than 390,000.
During the National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7, the port recorded more than 95,000 cross-border passenger trips, with daily traffic peaking at more than 17,000.
Visa-free policies have helped drive the increase in foreign arrivals. China has expanded its unilateral visa-free arrangements, extended permitted stays to 30 days, and continued implementing its 240-hour visa-free transit policy. As of Oct 7, more than 220,000 foreign visitors had traveled to Hangzhou under visa-free arrangements this year, up 17 percent year-on-year and accounting for more than half of all foreign arrivals. Major source countries included South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia.
More travelers have combined annual leave with public holidays this year to take longer trips. Short-haul destinations such as Hong Kong, Macao, and South Korea remained popular, while travel to Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States also gained momentum.
