Hangzhou has been selected as the host city for the 2027 International Museum Day China main venue event, which was anounced on May 18 during the 2026 International Museum Day China main venue event held in Inner Mongolia.
Organized annually since 2009, the event is China's highest-profile museum and cultural heritage gathering.
The selection reflects national recognition of Hangzhou's achievements in museum development. In recent years, the city has expanded its museum network, enhanced cultural heritage protection, improved public services, and promoted innovation in exhibitions and cultural products.
Looking ahead, Hangzhou plans to further integrate museums into urban life, strengthen exhibition and conservation capabilities, and deepen collaboration between museums, tourism, education, and technology, bringing new vitality to its rich cultural heritage.
Hangzhou also received another honor at the event. The permanent exhibition at Yujiashan Archaeological Museum was named a distinguished project in China's 2025 Top Museum Exhibitions awards.
Featuring archaeological discoveries from the Linping site cluster, the museum showcases the development of the ancient Liangzhu Civilization and highlights 7,000 years of human history in the region. Its innovative accessible exhibition space allows visitors of all abilities to engage with archaeological heritage.
