A special exhibition highlighting traditional Chinese auspicious patterns opened on Dec 23 at the international departure hall of Terminal 4 at Hangzhou International Airport.

Jointly launched by the China National Silk Museum and the airport, Splendid Silk: Auspiciousness Through Time showcases silk relics and reproductions featuring classic motifs, from Han Dynasty (206 BC–220) cloud patterns to Tang Dynasty (618–907) linked pearls and Ming-Qing (1368–1911) auspicious designs. The display presents silk as both a carrier of Silk Road civilization and a symbol of Chinese cultural blessings.

An interactive zone invites travelers to try their hands at pattern rubbing and tie-dyeing, as well as to watch live demonstrations of traditional art forms. The public program, titled Take Auspicious China Home, will roll out hands-on silk activities revolving around major traditional festivals such as Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mid-Autumn Festival.

Museum director Ji Xiaofen said the airport exhibition extends the museum beyond its walls, allowing travelers to experience, share and pass on silk culture. Airport officials described the project as an innovative integration of civil aviation and culture, turning the terminal into a new window for sharing Hangzhou's silk heritage with the world.
