Meilin village in Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, spans an area of 1.88 square kilometers. Originally a typical sandy plain settlement, it is transforming into a "low-carbon countryside" thanks to photovoltaic power generation.

The village has built photovoltaic panels over its rice farms and begun raising fish in its ponds to generate fresh revenue streams. Projections indicate an annual upsurge in the village's revenue surpassing 110,000 yuan ($15,313).

The photovoltaic panels form the heart of this transformation atop the Beautiful Life Center, curtailing carbon emissions by 268 metric tons annually and providing energy for over 300 village households.

The village has erected the district's inaugural integrated solar charging station, reducing charging expenses from 0.85 yuan/kWh to 0.45 yuan/kWh.

With its transformation, Meilin village has created a model of low-carbon living.
