On July 19 (France Time), Professor Liang Xiao from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital (SRRSH) affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine, using theChinese surgical robot in France, remotely removed the left part of the liver of an 80-year-old patientin Hangzhou. The operation lasts only 50 minutes. This is the world’s first transcontinental telerobotic liver cancer resection surgery, showing the advancement of China's telemedicine and surgical robot.
Nearly 20,000 experts from dozens of countries witnessed the operation live, praising both the robot's performance and Chinese medical expertise.
This landmark surgery justifies the feasibility of telerobotic surgery, expected to address medical resource disparities in remote regions or islands.
