This spring, hiking to scenic viewpoints has become a must-do activity around Hangzhou – the capital of East China's Zhejiang province.
Beyond just climbing mountains, hidden viewing platforms and walkways nestling in the hills offer some of the most breathtaking sights. Here are four must-visit spots:
Majiawu viewing platform
Dubbed Hangzhou's most beautiful viewpoint, Majiawu is a cloud-top retreat close to the city. Located in Majiawu village, a 30-minute wooden walkway leads to a platform offering sweeping views of West Lake, Xixi Wetland and Hangzhou's skyline – with twinkling city lights at night.
Xianghu walkway
For a quieter, history-infused trek, the Xianghu walkway – a 2-hour loop – offers glorious views of Xianghu Lake, passing sites linked to Emperor Goujian of Yue Kingdom in ancient times. Many hikers call this the hidden gem of Xianghu Lake.
Pingtiantang ancient path
Located in Baizhang town in Yuhang district, this 8-kilometer forest trail reaches its peak at 878 meters, where wonderful azalea flowers blanket the mountains in April. A short hike rewards visitors with endless pink blossoms and panoramic views – a must-see for spring.
Daming Mountain skywalk
For a thrilling experience, the 1.5-km skywalk at Daming Mountain, in the Lin'an district of Hangzhou, clings to a sheer cliffside – offering jaw-dropping views of rolling clouds and jagged peaks. It really feels like walking in the sky, making it a breathtaking spot for adventurers.
