On January 21, Zhejiang Sports Directors Meeting was held in Hangzhou, focusing on football development.

In 2024, Hangzhou rolled out multiple measures to develop football. Hangzhou built 24 schools by adopting the model of cooperation between the municipal sports team and the local organization, established the football academy, and implemented the overseas training program, to strengthen the cultivation of players. Hangzhou also added 166 football pitches. At present, the total number of football pitches is up to 1,476. These venues are open to the public free of charge or at a low price.

In 2025, Hangzhou will continuously explore football reform and create a strong atmosphere for the development of professional football. On March 25, Hangzhou will host the round of 18 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers. Chinese Football Team will compete with Australian Team at Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium. Hangzhou will also add one football team (Class B) called Linping Wuyue Football Club.
