In terms of sci-tech innovation index, Hangzhou has been included in the global top 15 cities for three consecutive years. Among 13 counties (cities/districts) in Hangzhou, four districts’ innovation indexes are at the provincial leading level.

In 2023, the number of national high-tech enterprises in Hangzhou took fifth place in China. The number of Hangzhou’s invention patents ranked the first among provincial capital cities. This year, Hangzhou accelerates the construction of the global innovation hub, and two large-scale scientific facilities are speeding up the construction.

In the assessment of five innovation indexes on sci-tech investment, technological innovation, sci-tech output, transformation & upgrading, and innovation environment, Binjiang District ranks the first in the province, becoming the district with the highest innovation index. Owning to resources of higher education zone and government’s valid service reform, Qiantang District develops into the district with the greatest progress in innovation index.
