On November 8, Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Beijing, and witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation documents in fields such as culture, science & technology, education, and establishment of friendly relations between world heritages. Yao Gaoyuan, mayor of Hangzhou, signed the cooperation agreement with Damiano Tommasi, mayor of Verona in Italy.
According to the agreement, Hangzhou and Verona will strengthen cooperation in cultural heritage, tourism, art, performance, trade, sports, research & training, museum, etc., including co-constructing the "Hangzhou · Verona Exchange Museum", promoting trade in local specialties two cities (wine and tea), and organizing cultural exchange activities.
Hangzhou and Verona became sister cities in 2019. In recent years, due to their similar cultural backgrounds, they have carried out multiple cooperation projects, such as opening China-Italy Love Bus Line, hosting "Love Culture Week", and holding cultural heritage exchange forums.
