According to incomplete statistics, as of September 30, 2024, Hangzhou Wild Animal Rescue Agency had received and rescued 500 wild animals, covering 105 species of wild animals such as birds, beasts, and amphibious reptiles. Among them, birds accounted for the largest proportion, involving 81 species. Streptopelia chinensis, Streptopelia orientalis, Lophura nythemera, Turdus merula, Nycticorax nycticorax, Otus bakkamoena, and other birds were injured or trapped for any reason; later, citizens found and sent them to the rescue agency. After treatment and care, most of them have recovered and are ready to return to nature.

In recent years, Hangzhou has established wild animal shelters & rescue stations in the districts and counties (cities). It has set up the wild animal rescue network system, which has become the important cornerstone of wild animal protection.
