On August 29, Li Zhangyu, a para athlete from Hangzhou, won the gold medal at the cycling track men's C1 3,000m individual pursuit event on the first competition day of Paris Paralympic Games, claiming the first gold medal for Chinese Sports Delegation. He broke the world record in the preliminary.

Li Zhangyu comes from Lin'an, Hangzhou. He seized four gold medals at the previous three Paralympic Games, won seven gold medals at the previous three Asian Para Games, and became champion at the Cycling World Championships many times.
