Hangzhou continued to experience intense heat on Aug 11, with temperatures reaching 30 C by 6 am.
The Zhejiang Weather Bureau reported that under the influence of a subtropical high, most of Zhejiang, including Hangzhou, could see temperatures soaring to 39 to 41 C, with some areas exceeding 41 C. The Hangzhou meteorological station issued a red alert for extreme heat, urging residents to take precautions.
However, relief is on the way. Starting Aug 12, the subtropical high is expected to weaken, bringing a shift in weather patterns. From Aug 13, rain showers and thunderstorms will become more frequent, helping to ease the heat. By Aug 14 to 16, temperatures across most areas are expected to drop to 35 to 37 C.
Residents are advised to stay up to date with the latest weather alerts and carry rain gear when heading out, especially during thunderstorms.
