Recently, Zhejiang Xingyue Biotechnology Co., Ltd. in Hangzhou has independently developed a silk fibroin hernia patch that is made of silk.

Zhao Hongshi, chief scientist of the company, said, “The product can be implanted in the weak or defective area of human body. Subsequently, it will be slowly degraded and can be fully absorbed by the human body. The implanted silk has no toxicity, sensitization or irritation, able to promote wound healing.”

In March, the product was approved by the National Medical Products Administration, s, becoming the first approved silk fibroin hernia patch of China.

Zhao Hongshi said, “We will continue to focus on the research and development of silk materials for medical applications, and strive to promote China’s medical technology of silk to the world.”
