An intercity railway, connecting key tourist attractions in Hangzhou, Huzhou, Suzhou and Shanghai, has recently started construction.

With a designed speed of 160 km/h, this railway sets up more stations along the way compared with ordinary high-speed railways, passing through ancient towns including Wuzhen, Nanxun, Lianshi, Yanguan, Zhenze, Lili, and Tongli. It boasts a typical water town tourist route of Jiangnan.

The preliminary work of some sections of the project has been initiated. In the future, taking the intercity railway in the Yangtze River Delta Region may be as convenient as taking the metro.
