On July 1, the International Chess Federation announced that, the FIDE World Championship Match 2024 will be held in Singapore between November 20 and December 15, and it will feature the Defending Champion Ding Liren from Zhejiang and the Challenger Gukesh D from India.
The relevant responsible person of Hangzhou Branch of China Qiyuan said: "generally speaking, Gukesh D's strength is not the strongest among eight candidate players. This 18-year-old boy lacks the competition experience. It is a good thing for Ding Liren."
Last year, Ding Liren won the world champion for the first time, becoming China’s first world chess champion. Recently, Ding Liren has finished the offseason, and has taken part in multiple events to adjust his status.
In September, he will represent Chinese Men's Team to participate in the team match of the World Chess Olympiad. This is a good opportunity for him to prepare for the event.
