The Signing Ceremony of a korfball strategic cooperation project by the General Administration of Sport of China was held in Hangzhou on June 12.
In 1903, korfball, invented by a physical education teacher in the middle school in the Netherlands, is characterized by participation of both men and women in the same game. Featuring being easy to play at many sites, it is popular in more than 70 countries and regions.
In the competition, players are not allowed to have physical contact, hold the ball while running, or dribble. Given that, teamwork is the key to win. Korfball is a competitive and entertaining sport.
In China, over 500 schools have introduced korfball, with more than 1,000 players. Chinese Korfball Team won the runner-up at an Asian tournament.
Qi Xianzhong, an official of Hangzhou Sports Bureau noted, “Hangzhou plans to incorporate it into the physical education curriculum of colleges & universities, and promote korfball through organizing large-scale competitions and trainings, as well as constructing korfball courts and facilities.”
