Hangzhou Safari Park celebrated the Dragon Boat Festival on June 10 with a unique twist: custom zongzi treats for the animals. Both visitors and animals enjoyed the traditional festivities together.

Panda Banban: Bamboo shoot zongzi

Banban the giant panda savored a special zongzi made out of bamboo shoots, carefully prepared by caretakers with bamboo shoots and cornmeal wrapped in traditional leaves. Banban adeptly unwrapped the zongzi to enjoy the tasty filling and even inspected the bamboo basket afterward.

Orangutan Maodou: Fruit zongzi

Three-year-old orangutan Maodou, celebrating its first Dragon Boat Festival at the zoo, enjoyed fruit zongzi filled with its favorite fruits. Maodou quickly peeled the zongzi and devoured it with delight, clearly relishing the sweet treat.

Fennec fox family: Chicken breast zongzi

The fennec fox family received zongzi filled with tender chicken breast. Initially wary of the unfamiliar scent of the leaves, the foxes cautiously unwrapped the zongzi and took delicate bites. The caretaker noted that their cautious behavior is typical, and caretakers avoid staying nearby while they eat out of respect for their natural instincts.
