The world's top-ranked mixed doubles pair, Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, known as "Yasi" duo, claimed their first BWF Singapore Badminton Open title on June 2. They secured a decisive victory against the Chinese Taipei duo of Yang Po-hsuan and Hu Ling-fang, winning in straight sets.
In the semifinals, Zheng and Huang defeated the South Korean pair of Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jung, the previous World Championship winners, avenging their loss at last year's World Championship final.
Zheng, a Wenzhou native, stated, "Every victory before the Olympics boosts our confidence for Paris."
Facing Yang and Hu, ranked 12th globally, the "Yasi" duo dominated. They took the first set 21-11 and overcame a mid-game tie in the second set to win 21-11, with Huang's decisive net play clinching the match.
After a break following the Badminton Asia Championships 2024 in April, "Yasi" returned strong, securing their third title of the season. This win is their first Singapore Open title, their 11th Super 750-level championship, and their 32nd BWF World Tour title overall.
"We're incredibly happy. We've visited Singapore many times but never won here before. Today, we've unlocked a new achievement," Zheng expressed after the match.
