In Qingtian county, Lishui, Zhejiang province, waxberry growers are revolutionizing techniques to improve waxberry cultivation.
At present, most greenhouse-grown waxberries are not fully ripe, but in the greenhouse of grower Zhang Chunhua, plump waxberries are already hanging on the branches.
"These waxberries will hit the market around May 20. Several small orders can be delivered tomorrow or the day after tomorrow," said Zhang.
The accelerated ripening process is due to the introduction of double-film greenhouse technology. This innovation leverages the double-film cover to enhance temperature regulation, facilitating fruit development and maturation.
"Our greenhouses are located at an altitude of more than 450 meters, so the temperature at night is relatively low," explained Zhang. "The temperature difference between double-film and single-film greenhouses can reach three to five degrees, so waxberries in double-film greenhouses can mature half a month earlier."
Additionally, the implementation of smart temperature control and water-fertilizer management systems further optimizes waxberry cultivation. Growers like Lin Songxian have embraced these technologies.
"This intelligent temperature control device can control the opening and closing of the greenhouse according to the temperature inside, significantly reducing our labor costs," Lin said. With just a mobile phone, all details on the greenhouse are in hand.
Full implementation of new technologies, including intelligent temperature control, has been across all the greenhouses growing waxberries in Qingtian county.
