Xizi Spirit Aerosystems Co, a company originally known for manufacturing elevators and boilers, has made a remarkable transition into the high-end aviation industry.
The shift comes as the company has ramped up production of emergency power generator compartments and auxiliary power unit doors for the domestically produced large aircraft C919, following the aircraft's commercialization and mass production.
With an ambitious target to deliver 40 C919 orders this year, the company based in Hangzhou in East China's Zhejiang province has adapted to the demands of high-intensity production, leveraging its expertise in other manufacturing sectors to propel its foray into the aviation industry.
In a strategic move to bolster its capabilities, the company has redirected the profits earned from boiler and elevator manufacturing towards research and development of aircraft components, marking a bold and successful transition into the realm of high-end manufacturing.
It has obtained 344 qualifications for special processing, each representing a stride forward in the aviation sector. Its role as a supplier for the C919 has facilitated its rapid expansion into international markets.
In recent years, Hangzhou's Qiantang district has been steadfast in its pursuit of aerospace industry development, enhancing the competitiveness of its high-end manufacturing equipment industry.
The district has become a hub for a cluster of high-tech aviation enterprises. In 2023, the aerospace industry in the Qiantang achieved an output value of 650 million yuan ($89.7 million), a 32 percent year-on-year increase.
