“April is indeed the loveliest month in the mortal realm, where the riotous hues of spring always stir hearts with longing.” Amidst the captivating tapestry of blooms, there's an opportunity at the city’s botanical garden not just to admire the vibrant flower show but engage in an intimate embrace with the nature itself. From today through April 14, something akin to the epitome of urban gatherings in Hangzhou, colloquially known as “plant b,” is set to make its grand entrance - so what exciting breakout events lie ahead in the coming days? Let's find together!

Last year's sensation that topped the charts undoubtedly included Yue Opera. This once-revered pastime for only seniors unexpectedly captured the hearts of the young generation, sweeping across the internet like wildfire. Countless of them flocked to watch performances and embraced this traditional opera form, turning it into a cross-generational phenomenon.

In an effort to immerse everyone in a reciprocal journey between the show performers and the audience, the garden is bringing an intangible cultural heritage project - Yue Opera - right into the heart of its landscape. On Saturday, April 13, celebrated Yue Opera actress Shen Xiaqi will join hands with the public to explore the allure of such a stage play form that has digested today’s aesthetics in long-time cultural transition and communication. Beyond the timeless classics, an enchanting forest acoustic concert and an evening soirée await all those who seek a melodic rendezvous under the stars.

There’re not only feasts for ears. To relax limbs and body, why not bring your family and friends to exercise in the forest, absorb oxygen, and catch the pulse of spring together? Run, jump, and sweat.

Now Ba Duan Jin, Wing Chun, Wu Qin Xi, and Tai Chi are not exclusive to seniors. The so-called “new Chinese fitness programs” have conquered and swept across the generations born in the 1990s and 2000s. They follow an unbeaten trail, however, by being lectured by some pro senior deep in the forest to practice it.

The Lawn of the botanical garden also features a pickleball show this Sunday. That’s a good chance to learn more about this less-populated sporting event, thanks to the city’s pickleball club. The place will also host open auction, badge collection and other fun activities for visitors.
