Plans for the main body construction of the ultra-weak magnetic field major scientific device, located in Hangzhou's High-tech Zone, were unveiled on April 11.

Construction is set to begin in December this year, with completion expected by June 2029 and national acceptance by 2030.

The facility is part of Hangzhou's endeavor to build the world's only "zero magnetic" space, maintaining China's leading position in this field.

According to Professor Fang Jiancheng, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief scientist on the project, the facility will revolutionize disease diagnosis and treatment through ultra-weak magnetic measurements, potentially spawning a new industry for zero-magnetic medical equipment.

Furthermore, Hangzhou's Ultra-Weak Magnetic Field National Major Scientific Infrastructure Research Institute is adopting a unique approach to simultaneous construction and technology transfer. The first product of this endeavor, a cardiac magnetic imaging device, has already transitioned from the laboratory to clinical trials in provinces like Zhejiang and Shandong.

In line with this, Hangzhou Zero Magnetic Medical Equipment Co is being established to capitalize on this technological advancement and develop high-end medical devices.

Cross-disciplinary research platforms are also being established, focusing on chip-based sensors and other technologies. Hangzhou aims to become a comprehensive national scientific center, with initiatives like these propelling it to the forefront of scientific innovation.
