Domestic and foreign experts and scholars gathered to appreciate the beauty of diverse water civilizations and discuss water governance strategies at the China National Water Museum in Xiaoshan district, Hangzhou on March 22, World Water Day.

Shahbaz Khan, director of the UNESCO Office for East Asia, praised China's initiatives in promoting water-saving, implementing integrated water resource management, and advancing the development of a so-called "water ecological civilization". He elaborated on UNESCO's concepts regarding water issues and called for global unity and enhanced cooperation.

Chen Yexing, chief engineer of the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Water Resources, stated that Zhejiang will continue to leverage its advantages in water resources and water culture, collaborating with governments of countries to promote the UN's Sustainable Development Goals related to water.

Curator Chen Yongming highlighted the museum's role in promoting water culture and conducting public water education. Against the backdrop of increasingly-severe global water challenges, the museum is actively engaging in international exchanges, sharing experiences with sister institutions worldwide.

The event was attended by leaders and experts from water-related departments in China, as well as representatives from the embassies and consulates of Pakistan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Austria, and Denmark, among many others.
