A shipment of 200 used cars worth $3 million departed without issue from Hangzhou on March 21, traveled by land to Ningbo Port, and then set sail to the United Arab Emirates.
This marks the first time used cars have been exported from Hangzhou since the release of the Announcement on Matters Concerning the Export of Used Cars by five ministries earlier this year.
In August 2019, Zhejiang's first used car was exported from Hangzhou's neighboring city Taizhou to Cote d'Ivoire.
"With the upgrade of domestic automobiles, China has witnessed a growing number of used cars," said Sun Zhongping, an industrial insider. Hangzhou boasts the largest used car trading market in the province. Over the past two years, the used car export platform he works for has seen rapid growth, exporting to regions including the entire African continent, Southeast Asia, South America, and Central Europe.
His company now offers a complete set of services for used car exports, including sourcing, refurbishment, inspection, registration transfer, customs clearance, logistics, and deregistration.
China's used car export market has surged to over 100,000 vehicles. The demand for used cars in the international market is also increasing, especially from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, which have a strong demand for affordable and reliable used cars.
