According to data released by Hangzhou Bureau of Statistics, by the end of 2023, Hangzhou’s permanent resident population totals 12.522 million, up 146,000 compared with that at the end of 2022.
Among 13 districts and counties, population of 10 areas has increased, except Chun’an County, Jiande City, and Linping District. Xiaoshan District has the largest population, with a permanent resident population of 2.14 million. Yuhang District follows Xiaoshan in population, with the growth rate of it ranking first across the city.
The proportion of young people has been up to 93.42% among the increased population, which justifies efforts made in Hangzhou’s talent policy and economic development. However, the proportion of the working-age population has decreased year by year. The proportion of the elderly population has increased. This means that Hangzhou shall accelerate talent introduction to stimulate its potential in economic development.
