Spring blossoms across China: Six destinations to enjoy springtime

From vibrant peach blossoms to enchanting tulips, springtime is when plants wake up, turning fields and meadows into seas of beautiful flowers. Fluxes of visitors and tourists are spotted in city parks, scenic spots, and rural villages to enjoy their weekends and nature.

We've put together a floral map containing six enchanting locations across China, each with its signature blossoms.

Peach blossoms

Location: Gala village in Nyingchi, Xizang Autonomous Region

Ideal appreciation time: March and April

Every spring, Nyingchi transforms itself into a wondrous sea of peach blossoms, with flocks of tourists coming to appreciate the beautiful scenery of snow-capped mountains and peach blossoms. In Chinese, peach blossoms can serve as a double entendre to describe someone's admirer or potential romantic relationship. In Chinese literature, peach blossoms are used as a metaphor for love and affairs.

Rapeseed flowers

Location: Huangling Scenic Spot in Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province

Ideal appreciation time: March and April

There are many villages where you can see terraces full of yellow rapeseed flowers in Wuyuan County. The entire county will be covered with these bright yellow canola flowers along with white and gray traditional village houses, creating a vibrant scene.

Peonies

Location: Luoyang International Peony Garden, Henan Province

Ideal appreciation time: April and May

Every year, the city of Luoyang holds an international peony fair to attract tourists. The peony has been called the "king of flowers" in China for its gorgeous charm and beauty. The flower also has many auspicious meanings in Chinese culture and is a symbol of grace and prosperity in China. Ancient Chinese poets liked to compare the peony with beautiful, elegant ladies, as the two were equally pleasant to the eyes.

Azaleas

Location: Baili Azalea Nature Reserve, Bijie, Guizhou Province

Ideal appreciation time: April to July

The Baili Azalea Nature Reserve is home to more than 120 square kilometers of azaleas, known as the world's largest natural azalea garden, with blossoms popping out from early spring through late summer. The wild azaleas are of colors ranging from white to shades of pink, red, yellow, orange, and salmon, blanketing the green mountains with vibrant colors. The nature reserve is also an ideal place to escape the summer heat and enjoy hot springs.

Apricot blossoms

Location: Xinjiang Apricot Valley, Turgen township of Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region

Ideal appreciation time: April to early May

Xinjiang Apricot Valley is one of the areas where wild apricot blossom forests in Xinjiang are concentrated. Every April, the Turgen apricot flowers have been a major attraction for tourists to Xinjiang.

Tulips

Location: Hangzhou Taiziwan Park, Zhejiang Province

Ideal appreciation time: March and April

Hangzhou's Taiziwan Park, also known as Prince Bay Park, is one of China's most popular destinations to admire tulips. Every year, the city would have hundreds of thousands of beautiful tulips on display. Visitors can also smell the fragrance while visiting.
