In a recent upgrade in Hangzhou, smart parking locks have been seen near Huanglong Sports Center. These innovative devices automatically raise a barrier after a vehicle has been parked for 15 minutes, requiring a QR code scan and payment to lower the barrier for exit.

The parking spaces are located along Tihuan'er Road, each equipped with a long, deep-yellow smart lock.

In the past, drivers would find a payment notice attached to their windshield wipers. This time, they will see an instruction to scan a QR code to pay and unlock instead. The note explains that parking is free for the first 15 minutes, after which the barrier rises and payment is required. The preferred payment methods are WeChat or Alipay.

Scanning the QR code opens the "CPT Parking Lock" mini-program, which displays the parking space number and leading to a payment interface that includes details like the lock number, entry time, parking duration, and fee. Confirming the payment unlocks the space.

A staff member mentioned that the smart locks have been operational since Feb 1 and are in a trial phase. With nearly 180 equipped spaces on Tihuan'er Road, the locks remain flush with the ground when not in use and rise after the free 15-minute period to indicate payment is due.

For vehicles with low undercarriages, the rising part of the lock is made of rubber to avoid damage by retracting if contact is made. The system also includes photographing the parked vehicles for added security, with images uploaded to the mini- program for driver reassurance.
