Chinese New Year celebrations took place in London's Chinatown on Feb 11, with a festive parade drawing thousands of crowds all the way. More than 700,000 people joined this carnival, which organized by the London Chinatown Chinese Association (LCCA) to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.
The London Chinese New Year celebrations have been held for 23 consecutive years. It was not only the largest Spring Festival celebration outside of Asia but also one of the most eagerly anticipated festivals for Londoners. The celebrations featured a series of activities including handcrafted floats, dragon dance troupes, displays of traditional Chinese costumes and cultural workshops, During the parade, one of the Chinese national intangible cultural heritage, the Puning Yingge folk dance, made its debut in the UK with the cultural feast performed by 16 dancers.
China's ambassador to the UK, Zheng Zeguang, mayor of London Sadiq Khan and other officials joined this great carnival. To celebrate this event, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also sent a congratulatory letter that read, "I am sure that the year of the Dragon will offer everyone opportunities for growth and renewal throughout the year."
