A lot of migrant birds have been spotted at the West Lake of Hangzhou recently. The number of winter migrant birds this year is higher than those in previous years, according to Lu Jianli, a volunteer working in the West Lake.
The number of Phalacrocorax carbo is the highest, up to 172. The number of Aix galericulata is increased by 80, reaching 375. More than 30 Larus vegaes has been spotted recently in spite of its overall decrease in numbers this year. There are also 12 Mergus mergansers.
In addition, some migratory passage birds which refer to migratory birds that pass through a certain area during their migration, such as Fulica atra, Podiceps cristatus, Larus ridibundus, Aythya ferina, and Podiceps nigricollis, can be seen at the West Lake.
All these migrant birds may enjoy winter sunshine and delicious food at the West Lake, adding vitality to this scenic area.
