It is reported that, Shanghai-Zhapu-Hangzhou High-speed Railway is about to start its construction, expected to be completed in 2028. This high-speed railway starts from Hangzhouxi Railway Station, and ends at Shanghaidong Railway Station, spanning about 192 km, providing a more convenient way of travel for citizens in Hangzhou.

The high-speed railway will cut the travel time for citizens in the west of Hangzhou to Shanghai. At present, the railway between the two cities necessitates a detour through Huzhou and Suzhou, which further increases the travel time. Shanghai-Zhapu-Hangzhou High-speed Railway will cut the travel time between Hangzhou and Shanghai by rail to 40 minutes.

Notably, the railway is also a bonus for outbound trips for Hangzhou's passengers. Its terminal station, called Shanghaidong Railway Station, is under construction and is expected to be combined with Pudong Airport, which means that people can take a direct train from Hangzhou to Shanghai Airport, where there are more options for international flights.
