The 2024 New Year holiday is the first statutory holiday after the Hangzhou Asian Games. According to estimates, Hangzhou is expected to receive close to 700,000 tourist arrivals on a daily basis during the 2024 three-day New Year holiday, and tourist arrivals over the three days will surge 65.2 percent year on year. The predication was made by Hangzhou’s tourism laboratory based on the city’s intelligent cultural and tourism system, as well as analysis of online reservations, monitoring of passenger traffic and city activities. Xianghu Lake, Xixi National Wetland Park, King Qian Mausoleum and Hangzhou Botanical Garden are going to meet tourism peaks, and the lakeside international pedestrian zone, Suntiandy Park and China Silk City will also be favorite destinations. 

Number of tourists flying to Hangzhou to go up by 4.8-folds year on year 

According to the predication, due to the length of the holiday and local weather, tourists from other provinces to Hangzhou shrank compared with the National Day holiday. They mainly came from provincial-level regions of Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Guangdong, Henan and Shandong. Visitors from Zhejiang Province mainly came from cities including Jiaxing, Shaoxing, Jinhua, Ningbo and Huzhou. 

It is expected that the number of tourists flying to Hangzhou will go up by 4.8-folds year on year during the 2024 New Year holiday. Remarkable increase will be seen in the number of tourists from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Xi’an, Beijing and Harbin. Estimates showed that close to 950,000 tourists would choose to live in a local hotel, up 22.7 percent from the same period in 2023. Spa resorts and children friendly hotels will be favored by tourists. 

New Year celebrations are expected to boost tourist consumption 

A variety of New Year celebrations have been scheduled for the three-day holiday, which is expected to boost tourist consumption. 

The West Lake scenic spot will launch a series of cultural and tourist activities to celebrate the New Year. Its toll scenic areas will receive close to 100,000 tourists, according to estimates. Lingyin Temple will be a popular tourist destination. Ski and spa resorts will continue to unleash consumption potential. Bookings for the Daming Mountain Wansong Ski Resort in Hangzhou and Shengxianli Ski Resort in Tonglu have been on the rise. 

Exclusive family-friendly tourism packages to neighboring or countryside destinations will gain popularity. Predications based on big data showed that countryside tours will be sought after during the New Year holiday. Popular destinations include Huanggongwang Village, Qingzhiwu block and Xinsha Island.

According to data of online travel agencies including Ctrip, Qunar, ly.com, and Fliggy, top 10 tourism destinations during the 2024 New Year holiday will be Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Harbin, Chengdu, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Wuhan and Chongqing.
