The Chinese delegation for the forthcoming 4th Asian Para Games was recently announced in Beijing. There are 723 members, including two athletes from Shaoxing, Zhejiang province.
They are Jiang Yuyan, the swimming champion of the Tokyo Paralympic Games, and Yu Qinqian, a silver medalist of blind soccer.
Jiang, a post-2000 generation rising star, lost her right arm and leg in an unfortunate accident at the age of four. In the summer of 2011, her mother, Wang Zhifang, brought her to the Shaoxing Sports School's swimming team, marking the beginning of her profound relationship with swimming.
During the Tokyo Paralympic Games, Jiang was the youngest female athlete in the Chinese delegation. Her outstanding performance in the women's 50m butterfly S6 category not only broke the world record during the preliminary rounds but also secured her a remarkable lead of 1.61 seconds over the second-place finisher in the final race, with a remarkable timing of 34.69 seconds
Yu, born in 1996, has participated in various major competitions. In the Tokyo Paralympic Games, Yu and his teammates struggled to advance through the group stage, ultimately achieving impressive victories over the Japanese and USA teams. Their journey culminated in a hard-fought match against a formidable Brazilian team, resulting in their well-deserved silver medal.
Presently, both athletes are rigorously training at the training base, fully committed to preparing for the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
