Lotuses on the West Lake started to bloom- a view deeply impressing visitors. Lotuses, including the West Lake Red Lotus, Xuanwu Lake Red Lotus, and Jiande Red Lotus grew here at 24 blocks, covering an area of about 150 mu in the West Lake. The period from late June to mid August represents the best time for lotus appreciation. Quyuan Fenghe, near the West Lake, gathered hundreds of varieties of lotuses, while the Huagang Guanyu (Fishing View at the Flower Harbor) Park features a special yellow lotus named nelumbo nucifera, also called Indian lotus. Waters in Maojiabu, west of the Lake, boasted hardy lotus “Xihu Qiuyun” (the Charming West Lake in Autumn) which flowered till late October.
