Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, celebrated the third Citizens' Day on May 3, with local residents participating in an English Talent Show to showcase their enthusiasm for the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games, local media reported.

May 3 is a big day for Hangzhou, as on this day in 1949, the city was liberated after years of war and heralded a new chapter of modern development. In December 2020, the city authorities designated May 3 as Citizens' Day to commemorate the anniversary of liberation and host citywide activities to enrich people's lives.

As Hangzhou will host the Asian Games this year, the city organized an English Talent Show, in which around 50 English speakers and local residents got together to celebrate the special day with English songs, operas and cross-talk programs.

Han Xinjiang, a local English teacher, was excited about his performance. "I believe that more foreign tourists will come to Hangzhou after the Asian Games. I will do my best to teach English well and add luster to the city's image," he said.

Dong Shuyan, a freshman at Hangzhou Renmin Vocational School, said she is very interested in studying English and has also participated in English debate competitions at the school. "As a native of Hangzhou, I hope to introduce China and my hometown to the world in the future."
