2023 West Lake Longjing Tea Festival was held at Longjing Village of Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area on March 28. 

Tea processing masters showed and shared tea processing procedures and experience on site. Sun Qi, a representative inheritor of green tea processing technique (West Lake Longjing Tea), said: “Various steps are involved in tea processing. I am now showing the step of ‘tea leave heating’, which needs physical strength as well as skills. Inappropriate handling or overheating of tea leaves may directly result in bad taste of the tea.”  

Outstanding tea processing players who have participated in West Lake Longjing Tea Youth Inheritance Competition and Young Worker Competition were commended during the activity. The youngest player was only 28 years old, showing the vitality and passion of new-generation tea inheritors. 

According to sources, the West Lake Scenic Area Management Committee has cumulatively trained 356 young people through assessment of tea-frying technicians and advanced tea-frying technicians, and has cultivated 23 district-level intangible culture inheritors of West Lake Longjing Tea (Shifeng Longjing Tea) and fostered 23 masters’ studios of tea leaves category (including tea ceremony, tea culture and tea processing).
